Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the state governor, will receive a report detailing the findings of the Anambra State Truth, Justice, and Peace Commission’s investigation into the insecurity in Anambra and the South East on Wednesday.

Anambra Truth Commission delivers its findings. Wednesday
Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, the chairman of the panel, revealed this to media on Monday in the state capital of Anambra, while voicing hope that the report would represent a “watershed” in the efforts to bring about peace, harmony, and stability in Anambra and the South East as a whole.
After serving as governor of Anambra for three months, Soludo established the commission in June 2022 and gave it the mission of determining the causes of the insecurity that was at that time at its highest in the Southeast. Among other goals, the commission was tasked with starting a sincere search for peace and reconciliation.
Town hall meetings and discussions with various stakeholders, communities, traditional rulers, security agencies, and individuals who were impacted by the insecurity in one way or another were how the commission, which also had Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu as its Secretary, got things started.
It was also established with the responsibility of investigating the origins, consequences, and potential remedies for Anambra’s insecurity.
Speaking about the commission’s work, Odinkalu stated, “It was a challenging but wonderful opportunity.” The fact that the government and local communities in the South-East supported the Commission indicates that the people in the area want an end to the insecurity.
We express our gratitude to the Anambra State government for their sincere efforts to address the multifaceted issue of insecurity, which stems from numerous factors that have all been identified.
“We hoped that the report would also serve as a point of reference for the Federal Government and other states that might wish to address the security situation within their domain with sincerity and commitment.”We also congratulate the wonderful people of Anambra, the media, town union leadership, traditional rulers, and security agencies for their important assistance and collaboration.
One of the children of the late Prof. Dora Akunyili, a former Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Obum Akunyili gave a testimony before the commission, sharing the sorrowful events of his father’s untimely death.
In the Awka special session of the Commission’s second public hearing, Obum gave a testimony.
He also gave a horrifying tale of how bystanders were filming the incident instead of bringing his father, the driver, and the security guys to the hospital for immediate medical attention after they had been shot by unknown intruders.
Obum’s evidence brought to light the tragic fact that the driver and his father had little hope of survival and had bled to death as a result of the lack of prompt medical attention.
Additionally, he informed the panel that, with prompt medical attention, his late father’s chances of surviving the gunshot wound to his head were approximately 10%.
Other witnesses described a number of near-insecure occurrences that occurred during the period under investigation.
